Sinds dinsdag zijn wij begonnen het het migreren van onze opslag naar de nieuwe spools zodat de oude spools geupgrade konden worden. In theorie zou dit geen impact mogen hebben op het usenet platform en zou alleen de overcapaciteit gebruiken worden voor de migratie. Helaas was dit niet van toepassing en werd het server park meer belast dan wij voorspelt hadden.

Door de aanhoudende problemen op het serverpark hebben wij besloten om vrijdag (gisteren) de migratie te stoppen en het verlies voor lief te nemen, als gevolgen hiervan is < 10% van de de retentie verloren gegaan. Het verlies betreft voornamelijk oudere bestanden. De bestanden zijn we beschikbaar op onze fallback server maar door de grote hoeveelheid dat we kwijt zijn geraakt zal de download snelheid van de fallback niet optimaal zijn. De huidige status is nu dat wij van de oude spools alle hardware geupdate hebben en dat er nog een enkele spools vandaag nog het besturingssysteem geinstalleerd zal worden.

We hopen alle spools dit weekend af te krijgen inclusief de installatie van de software zodat we vanaf maandag de retentie kunnen opbouwen. Verder zal er ook gekeken worden naar een compensatie nadat het server platform 100% draait zodat we dan pas kunnen zien hoe groot de schade is. Tot nu toe hebben wij de alle problemen die van onze kant kwamen gecompenseert en dat zal in dit geval ook zo zijn.

We started last tuesday our storage migration too our new spools so that we can upgrade our old spools with new hardware. The migration shouldn't have any impact on our usenet platform in theory and only should have used the capacity that is left. Unfortunatly this wasn't the situation which caused the migration to use more load on the usenet platform then that we have predicted.

Due to the ongoing problems on our platform we had decided on friday(yesterday) to stop the migration and take the loss of retention for granted, as a result of that we have lost < 10% of our retention. The lost files are mainly older files. The files are still available on the fallback server but the performance of the fallback will not be optimal due to the amount of data loss. The current status is that we have upgraded all of hardware of the new spools and that there are a few spools left where the operating system still needed to be installed on which will be done today.

We hope to finish all the spools this weekend including the installation of the software so that we can start to build up the retention on monday. Next to that we will look at a compensation for the inconvenience that is caused by this migration but that will be done when the platform is running 100% so we can see what the impact was of this migration and the damage that it has cost. Till now we have compensated all of the problems that were caused from our side so this time it will be the same thing.

Er is een probleem met een van de nieuwe opslag servers gevonden waardoor deze server het hele platform vertraagde. Dit probleem is inmiddels opgelost en de snelheid zou weer op een beter niveau moeten liggen. We maken ook goede voortgang met het installeren en configureren van de extra opslag voor de verbeterde retentie
